Rudgley apologies to partner and family for transgressions

Summer 6s superstar Joel Rudgley has been caught up in a row over allegations that he has played up on his partner (in crime) Joel Bernauer. Rudgley who was recently involved in a scooter accident upon leaving his home, has provided a statement via his manager Paul Hanigan. ""I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart," Rudgley said, appealing for privacy after celebrity gossip magazines and tabloids from around the world reported on various infedelities including going out in Byron without Bernauer and also playing a game of pool at the Bangalow Hotel with Loose Cannons superstar Michael Flanagan as his doubles partner. Hanigan pleaded for calm "He has the game of his life next week against Noodle Box Red Dragons. Please no more! He needs some space." pleaded Hanigan.

The hard work is nearly over and we have four teams left to fight it out for the ultimate in team glory. WEM and BITE ME have predictably made the grand final in Womens Division One although Noodle Box Dragon Girls made it hard for Bite Me who had to come from behind to secure a place in the final. In the mens Noodle Box Red Dragons smoked Seattle Sharks 7 - 3 to earn a place to claim immortality whilst Pirates had to oversome Budgie Smuggler Masterpiece in overtime golden goal finally winning 3 - 2.

The other division finals are on the draw page. Please note that all other regular games are being played at 6pm and 6:45pm. All finals will be played at 7:30pm with the presentations being up at the BANGALOW HOTEL at 8:45pm.

Good Luck to all finalists!

30/11

Rochelle Eley from Mullum Bruisers stole the show on Thursday night with 9 goals against the Knockeroos. This rockets Rochelle into the top ten in the sharp shooters list. The womens sharp shooters is not yet over with 5 players still within reach of claiming the illustrious golden boot. Sophie Towner, Chelsea Coleman and Amanda Brett from Wem and Rose Argent and Hollie Jarrett from Bite Me all have a chance to make a move with 2 games remaining and only 3 goals separating them all. In the mens Tom Ruhl (Pirates) has a 5 goal lead over Seb Bell (Seattle Sharks) and Paul Kirkland (Old Fellas). This title, unless something drastic happens seems to be in the hands once again of Ruhlo the Pirate AAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!

The Div One titles are now down to 4 teams each - In the womens Wem and Bite Me are still the teams to beat with Noodle Box Dragon Girls and Spos United hoping to cause an upset whilst in the Mens it could be anyone. Noodle Box Red Dragons easily took care of Old Fellas to reach the semis. Budgie Smuggler Masterpiece continued their run under the radar accounting for Get Shacked whilst Seattle Sharks won in overtime over the Pirates. The Pirates however, get another bite of the cherry being the highest placed loser.

So remember all teams are still playing. Best of luck!

This IS NOT first prize

It's over, It's over now move over........ The regular season has just finished and thefinals have begun. Physios thoughout Northern NSW are on standby for that first feeling of a twinge, Chemists are opening early today to get the rush of customers seeking both Panadol and Dencorub.

Congratulations to our pool winners. In the women WEM and BITE ME have gone through undefeated, whilst in the men's NOODLE BOX RED DRAGONS, THE PIRATES AND BUDGIE SMUGGLER MASTERPIECE took top spot. All teams in Summer 6s have a chance to have some glory on the 10th of December. The pools have been broken down into 3 Womens Divisions and 5 Mens Divisions so the trophy can still sit on the mantle (albeit a little smaller). The Draw page shows the divisional breakup.

The women shone in round 5 with 3 players scoring the magical 5 goal hauls. Chloe Dunsmore (Bite Me) Maddie Buhagiar (Noodle Box Dragon Girls) and Amanda Brett (Wem) did the deed in Round Seven. In the men, well there's a bit to work on boys.

A few tight games in Round Seven. Loose Cannons seem to always be in the news for the wrong reasons (refer Round 4 - ZERO ZERO Draw!!!!!!!). This time the boys alledgedly decided to throw a match in their attempts to miss out on A grade. Unfortunately their draw meant they just got a harder game in B Grade and now have to play Lords who had a 14- 1 thrashing over FC Utd instead of playing the erratic and aptly named Missed Opportunities. Glory Hogs nearly pulled off the upset of the round with a tight 4 - 3 loss to 88% Cocoa whilst Wem with only 4 players disposed of Kewell Kats 9 - 2.

Congratulations to all teams. Please note that although it is now finals time it does not mean the stakes are any higher. We will not tolerate abusive behaviour or voilence regardless of your postcode. Remember this is a social competition (do those words go together? - YES). We play for fun, not sheep stations................mmmmmmmmm.........sheep stations.

Hot Gossip Hotties

Round Six provided a couple of upsets especially in the men's with Old Fellas taking care of the Pirates whilst Chefs and Infarcts recording their first wins of the year defeating FC Utd and Borange respectively. Another upset is me with 2 more games experiencing nil all draws. WHAT IS GOING ON? Miserable Gits, Dark Horses, Exiled and Lochinvar wear the pink and purple striped coat of shame this week.

In the women Bite Me, Wem, Kinky Boots, Noodle Box Girls and Spos United had easy wins whilst wildcard Malvern Stars continued their climb up the ladder with another win.

A few injuries have happened over the past few weeks. Just a reminder (more details on our insurance page) that our injury insurance has limited cover and is only really for major injuries. We recommend that you take out your own personal health insurance to cover injuries such as twisted ankles, knees etc.

Goal of the week Kahlia Flick (Kinky Boots) from 20m out through traffic, bottom left hand corner.

Games of the week - this is make or break - the last general round of the season until finals - how you go this week will decide on what Division you end up in.
6pm - Where's 5ths v Westrac Diggers - this is the Diggers best chance to get a win for 2009. Where's 5ths have been developing each week, but will the passion of the Diggers prevail
7pm - Malvern Stars v Knockeroos - A win here for the Stars will be three wins in a row and cement their spot in the top 3
8pm - Exiled v Miserable Gits - 2 teams who had 0 - 0 draws last week. Can they repeat their pathetic form or will it be a goal fest?

Finally a correction from last week, the game between 88% Cocoa and Seattle Sharks was a 5 - 5 draw. We would like to unreservedly apologise to 88% Cocoa for the inconvenience and reservedly to Seattle Sharks for the inconvenience of thinking they needed a reality check.

110% Cocoa

A mesmorising night of football awaited the crowds of spectators for Round 5 of the Bangalow Hotel Summer 6s competition. The football gods smiled on the hallowed turf of the Bangalow Sports Ground (and it looks damn good after a bit of rain..........softer too).

Loose Cannons and 88% Cocoa atoned for their nil all draw last week with Loose Cannons demolishing Westrac Diggers 13 - 0 whilst 88% Cocoa did the unthinkable - that's right, Seattle Sharks, the Gold Coast United of Summer 6s have lost a game. Intrepid reporter Sonya Cougar quoted assistant coach of the Sharks Tom "Okon" Inoue stating "We will go through undefeated, we will win by more than 10 goals per game. Well Tom, what do you say now huh? HUH?
88% Cocoa won a tight tussle 6 - 5 over a 5 man Sharks outfit. It seems there must be something amiss within the Sharks camp with only 5 players turning up for the 2nd week in a row. Perhaps team manager Reuben "Miron" Hartnett needs to rally the troops, maybe take the boys away for a mid week soul searching trip on Team Owner Damon "Clive" Bell's private plane as another loss could see them end up in B Grade.

Wem and Bite Me continued their sparkling form with double figure wins over their opposition. Tenielle Shaw added another 5 goal haul to her sharp shooter tally however this could be her last for this year with Shaw coming from the field with an injured knee. A couple of close calls in the girls also occurred with Yummy Mummies narrowly defeating Mullum Bruisers 4 - 3 and Malvern Stars continued their good form with a 3 - 2 win over Pink Flamingos.

Thank you to those teams who have continued to pick up their rubbish and also help at the end of the night to move the goals off the fields. We really do appreciate it.

On a negative note, we experienced our second abandoned game of the season last week due to player misconduct. Due to fighting a player has been suspended for the season. We had already suspended a player for three weeks for abusing a referee. A quick comment on this ............ PULL YOUR HEADS IN! This competition is a social summer comp trying to put on a chirpy (thats right chirpy) atmosphere where we can play football out of season, have a bit of fun with our mates and at the end of the day walk off the field with a smile on our face. If this is not you and you are playing the comp to break someone, win a million bucks or secure a EPL contract, this competition is not for you. Walk away now, we have plenty of other people wanting to play in this comp and we would prefer those that have respect for our competition, the volunteers who run it, the referees who give their time so you can play football and the teams and players you compete against.

Now that is over with - Round 6 Games of the week

6pm - Pirates v Old Fellas - Pool B top of the table clash. We are still waiting for the Old Fellas to drop with a colective heart attack or all needing a hip replacement but they have defied medical orders and are staring down a top 2 finish. With Gun striker Paul Kirkland in good form and Adrian Zakaris and Paul Hickey providing support, the Pirates will have their toughest game of the season. It could come down to a good old shootout between Kirkland and Tom Ruhl. Who will win the steady old hand or the young cherry picker?

7pm - Wags v Malvern Stars - Malvern Stars are on the rise however Wags have yet to hit their straps and this could be the grudge match they have been waiting for. Expect a tight one with hair pulling, eye gouging and shin kicking madness (remember I did say no fighting earlier on).

8pm - Budgie Smuggler Masterpiece v 88% Cocoa - This could sort out who gets top spot in Pool C Men. With only 2 games to go until the semis, both teams need a win to stop Seattle Sharks from leap frogging them into top spot. SS have the better goal difference over both teams. Who will prevail? Who will choke? Will Ridge choose Brooke or Taylor? These are the questions that could change your life as we know it.

Good Luck

1/11

A scintillating round of football for round four of the 2009 Bangalow Hotel Summer 6s competition - I THINK NOT! How could this happen, never in the history of the competition have we had a 0 - 0 score line. 88% Cocoa and Loose Cannons you should be ashamed of yourselves. We even give a 3 - 0 score line for forfeits. I suggest you have a good hard look at the way you play, we don't play for points, trophies, positions on the ladder. We play for excitement, to get the four people watching each game the opportunity to see the ball hit the back netting so they jump up, spilling their chicken kebabs with rice all over their pants, whooping for joy at the brilliance of their team.

Other than that a good night of football again occurred on the hallowed and slightly softer turf of the Bangalow Sportsgrounds. We had 3 players slot 5 goals apiece - Hollie Jarett and Courtney Nelson (Bite Me v Mullum Yellas) and Joel Rudgley (Pirates v Chefs). Ryan Gray (Seattle Sharks) has had a great start to the season leading the sharp shooters with 14 goals in the men whilst regular sharp shooter Sophie Towner has claimed top spot in the women's over fellow Wem Chelsea Coleman with an 18 goal haul.

Congratulations to Bandits and Petals for the game of the week. A 2 - 1 result in the end to the Bandits. It was great to see both teams fight it out with such a good atmosphere. It was a game full of joy and excitement and a great spectacle for those who were watching.

We had a number of issues with dogs being off leashes/not under control during Round 4 games. Please note that whilst we have no issues with animals watching this glorious game, they must be under supervision and on a leash.

Rubbish is becoming an issue again. Please ensure that your remove all rubbish and that is including that of your supporters otherwise we will pull out the big stick and take of points and / or games.

Games of the week for Round 5.
6pm - 88% Cocoa v Seattle Sharks - both in semi finals last year - have 88% saved up their goals for this game?
7pm - Dark Horses v Old Fellas - 2nd v 3rd in Pool B - this could be the game which separates the men from the boys.
8pm - Yummy Mummies v Mullum Bruisers - both on 8 points with only goal difference separating them. This is more than a local derby.

Infamous Beach ball looking for Summer 6s spot

Infamous Beach Ball looking for Summer 6s berth

25/10

Sophie Towner (Wem) and Sam Owens (Noodle Box Red Dragons) are our goal scoring legends this week with both players netting 5 goals each. A couple of blowouts were experienced with Wem and Seattle Sharks experiencing 15 - 0 wins over their opposition.

Other men's title hopefuls Pirates, Noodle Box Red Dragons and Get Shacked experienced tougher opposition however still managed to get a win to register a 3 - 0 start to the season. Budgie Smuggler Masterpiece and 88% Cocoa also have not lost a match however their pedigree is yet to be tested against quality opposition.

In the ladies, Wem and Bite Me seem standouts with Kinky Boots and Noodle Box Dragon Girls rounding out the top four. Kinky Boots will learn if they are the real deal with their match up this week against Spos Utd. After a 10 - 0 thrashing by Wem in Round 2, Spos Utd bounced back with a resounding 7 - 0 shut out of Mullum Bruisers. Looking to gain back 2nd spot, spos Utd will be on the prowl.

Stimulus Package may have their good luck charm back with Saul Goodwin turning up for a match after trialing for top European clubs overseas. Luckily for Stimulus Package the Euro clubs could not see any value in Goodwin and his return saw them edge out Who's ya Daddy with a 4 -2 win (inculding a goal from Goodwin).

A crafty display of goalkeeperness from Christian Bown saw Ratpack back in the winners list as they accounted for Missed Opportunities 4 - 2. Brown's quick reflexes and Conor Benfield were the catalyst in Ratpacks win. Who would have thought that Kewell Kats could win a game by 6 goals (7 - 1 winners over Petals). 2 years ago Annie Lewis's team were estatic when they won one game in a season and their goa tally would have been 7 goals from 10 games. Nice work girls!

Games of the week
6pm - Miserable Gits v Lords
7pm - Yummy Mummies v Kewell Kats
8pm - Kinky Boots v Spos Utd

Old News

The favourites begin to shine

Some big wins and a few shut outs have highlighted the favourites for this year's Championship with Noodle Box Dragon Girls, Bite Me and Wem all recording impressive wins. It also looks like a 3 way battle in the men's with Noodlebox Red Dragons, Pirates and Seattle Sharks easily disposing with their opponents. Loose Cannons also recorded a smashing victory however they have not had back to back wins so their pedigree has yet to be confirmed.

Some outstanding individual performances with Todd Knaus (Noodlebox Red Dragons), Ryan Gray (Seattle Sharks) and Tom Ruhl (Pirates) all recording a 5 goal haul. Tenielle Shaw from Bite me also hit 4 goals against the Malvern Stars. Goal of the week goes to Miserable Gits Pete Morris who smashed a breakaway goal into the back of the net after a wayward pass from a team mate.

The question on most peoples lips after last night was "Are the Ratpack, at an average age of 18, already a bunch of has beens?" Less than impressive performances this year including a 12 - 2 lesson by Noodlebox Red Dragons has seen the stocks of Ratpack plummet quicker than the US stock exchange. The more experienced Dragons tore holes through Ratpack's defence who forgot that the Sharpshooters is not the only coveted award for the season. Next week's game against Missed Opportunities could be their turn around match with the youth and speed of the Ratpack sure to test Missed Opportunities aging defence. It could all come down to former Ratpack member Taha Bellaziz who was picked up for a pair of shinpads during the transfer season.

Please remember players are not to consume alcohol prior to taking the field. Should any player be suspected of playing under the influence, they will be removed from the field and suspended for up to 4 weeks.
Thanks to all those teams who picked up their rubbish. We have provided a couple of extra bins. Please keep it up.

Games of the week
6pm - Lochinvar v FC Utd - both teams need a win to keep in touch
7pm - Chefs v Exiled - bottom of the table clash could see an early dash for the wooden spoon
8pm - Karma v Cocktail Party - less than impressive starts from both teams is sure to change this week. It will be more than just another game.

Finally, I forgot last week to congratulate Glenn Hanigan and Dani McAtee for having a baby girl Laila Skye Hanigan. Hopefully we will see Laila make her Summer 6s debut in the near future. From all accounts she can kick a ball already.

Past News

A cracking night of football started off Round One of the 2009 Bangalow Hotel Summer 6's competition. A couple of surprises, only one draw (a match of the round at that), a team walk off, and plenty of goals (Wem def Petals 28 - 1 with four Wem girls leading the sharpshooters). Things didn't start to plan with Council deciding to dump some top soil on 2 of our fields. Kudos to Paz for getting the spare field and new field up in record time.

Games of the week turned out to be the case. A riveting 2 - 2 draw between Where's 5ths and Pelican Brief sent the night alight at 6pm. The speed, the fitness, the well..........class? Budgie Smuggler Masterpiece easily accounted for Loose Cannons 4 - 1. Looks like the boys from LC are looking to take out Div 3 again this year. Bite Me were clinical in their 6 - 2 mauling of Noodle Box Dragon Girls.

A couple of small things -

Rubbish - PICK IT UP!!!!!!! Those teams and their supporters who are caught leaving their rubbish behind will be penalised by having to forfeit the next weeks game, thus not only losing points but also losing the opportunity to play the next week. There are bins near the fields and up at the canteen. Those of us who organise the comp are quite prepared to volunteer our time to run an awesome comp for you but not pick up your crap.

PLEASE NOTE: Players are not to consume alcohol prior to taking the field. Should any player be suspected of playing under the influence, they will be removed from the field and suspended for up to 4 weeks.

Referees will also be using the yellow and red card system - yellow card mean a sin bin of 5 minutes behind your goals, red card means you are sent off.

We would love feedback - email info@summer6s.org.au or check us out on facebook, type in summer 6s and our logo should come up. Start a discussion - we would love to hear your thoughts.

Round 2 preview - 6pm Borange v United United - a middle of the table clash that will surely provide plenty of colour (even if it is from their socks) 7pm Karma v Kinky Boots - traditional rivals, who will claim the glory in 2009? 8pm Lords v Pirates - sounds like clash of the titans. Will the Pirates have a new strip to rival Lord's singlets? Can Lords overcome the striking prowess of the Ruhl/Campbell combination (Jza, I mean Jordy not you).

Best of luck next week

48 Teams chase the glory!

30 mens teams (a record) and 18 womens teams are planning to battle it out for Summer 6's coveted surfboard trophy for the next 10 weeks. All in all we had 52 teams nominate however there were not enough teams (2 more were needed) to put in another field.

And it is surely going to hot up starting week one. At 6pm it will be the battle of the hip replacements when Where's 5ths take on Pelican Brief. From all accounts the competition organisers have placed Byron Hospital on notice and ambulances will no doubt be circling the bowlo carpark. 7pm's games see an interesting match up between Loose Cannons and Budgie Smugglers Masterpiece. Whilst not much is known on the 'Budgies', The current C Grade champions Loose Cannons have been training at a secret location in Southern Alaska in order to stick another board on their mantlepiece. Intrepid Investigator Zoe Dunslots has advised that the win meant so much to the Loose Cannons lads, each player commemorated their win as C Grade Mens Champions with a tattoo in a rather discreet location. However, only Michael Flanagan could get more than "C Gra" tattooed.

Check out Field 5 at 8pm when Bite Me take on Noodle Box Dragon Girls. Both were semi finalists last year and would be keen to start their season off with a win.

We would love to see photos of the teams, action photos, rumours, innuendos, real stories even..............send them to info@summer6s.org.au
Best of luck!
